Buddy Burbage hit .304 in the games for which box scores survive, a figure built over fifteen years and eleven clubs, most of them along the eastern seaboard — the Baltimore Black Sox, the Hilldale Club, the Homestead Grays, the Pittsburgh Crawfords and the Philadelphia Stars among them.
He was a left-handed hitter who threw right-handed and played all three outfield positions, and by the end of his career, in 1943, he was catching. Twenty stolen bases and 91 walks appear in the surviving record alongside 266 hits.
Born in Salisbury, Maryland in 1907, Burbage played through the years when eastern clubs formed, folded and reformed around him, and was eighty-two at his death in August 1989.
