Pittsburgh Crawfords

The Crawfords existed for seven seasons and put eight Hall of Famers in the same clubhouse: Oscar Charleston, Josh Gibson, Satchel Paige, Cool Papa Bell, Judy Johnson, Jud Wilson, Bill Foster and Biz Mackey. Five of them were on the 1935 club at once, which is more than most pennant winners in any league have had in a decade.

The recorded record is 266-191 with pennants in 1933 and 1935. As with every Negro Leagues club those totals rest on the box scores that survive rather than a complete count, because the games were not documented with the resources the white major leagues had.

Gus Greenlee owned the club, funded it from a numbers business, and built Greenlee Field in 1932 — one of the few ballparks of the era owned by a Black proprietor rather than rented from a white one. Charleston managed for all seven seasons while playing first base. Greenlee's money ran out in 1938 and the club folded.
