Judy Johnson Marquee Hall of Fame 1975

He played 914 games at third base, more than anywhere else by a distance, and led his league in hits in 1926 and 1929 and in runs in 1929. The counted record gives him 816 hits and a .305 average over 712 recorded games from 1923 to 1936; seven earlier seasons, from 1918, sit outside it because there was no organized league to play in.

He was on the Hilldale Club teams that won three straight pennants in the middle 1920s and on the Pittsburgh Crawfords sides of the 1930s. He was chosen for two East-West All-Star games. The figures are partial because these statistics were not kept with the resources the white major leagues had.

He scouted for the Athletics, the Phillies and the Braves after the color line fell, and is credited with recommending players the clubs did not sign. The Hall of Fame elected him in 1975 through its Negro Leagues committee, and he lived another fourteen years, one of the few chosen while alive.
