Obie Lackey Marquee

Obie Lackey played shortstop, second and third across a decade of eastern Negro Leagues baseball, arriving with the Hilldale Club in 1929 and finishing with the New York Black Yankees in 1943. He batted .276 in the games that were scored.

The Philadelphia Stars had him for three seasons from 1935, and he won a pennant with them in his first. He spent 1933 divided between the Baltimore Sox and the Pittsburgh Crawfords, whose roster that year carried five men who would later reach the Hall of Fame.

Born in Stony Point, North Carolina in 1903, Lackey collected 186 hits and drove in 92 runs across 193 recorded games. Lackey's death came in December 1979, at seventy-six.
