Brooklyn Bridegrooms

The Bridegrooms won the American Association pennant in 1889, switched to the National League for 1890, and won that one too. No club has taken pennants in two different major leagues in consecutive seasons before or since. The 1889 club went 93-44, the best on file here.

Six seasons under the name at 440-374. The 1889 championship series against the New York Giants was called off at six games to three with the weather closing in, and Brooklyn had lost it. The worst season is 1898, at 54-91.

Bill McGunnigle managed both pennant clubs and went 267-139, a rate no later Brooklyn manager approached. One Hall of Famer played here, Tommy McCarthy. The club used four Washington Parks and Eastern Park across its history, and the name changed to the Grooms, the Superbas, the Robins and finally the Dodgers.
