Burdock's finest National League season came for Boston in 1883. He hit .330 with 132 hits, five home runs, 88 runs batted in and 80 runs across 96 games. He also managed the club for 54 games, going 30-24 while Boston finished first.
Fourteen recognized major-league seasons gave him 944 hits, 131 doubles, 40 triples, 390 runs batted in and 578 runs with a .244 average. He played mainly at second base and spent eleven consecutive years with Boston under its Red Caps and Beaneaters names.
Before the National League began, Burdock played four National Association seasons for Brooklyn, New York and Hartford. Those separate records add 287 hits, 200 runs and a .275 average in 227 games. He later played for Brooklyn in 1888 and returned for one final game in 1891. He died in 1931, at seventy-nine.
