Boston Red Caps
The Red Caps were one of the eight clubs that founded the National League in 1876 and took the pennant in 1877 and 1878. Seven seasons at 299-226. Harry Wright managed six of them at 254-187, having already won four straight National Association pennants with the same city's club.
This is the continuation of the Boston Red Stockings that dominated the Association, and the ancestor of the Atlanta Braves — the oldest continuously operating franchise in the game. The club became the Beaneaters in 1883.
Four Hall of Famers played here: Harry Wright, his brother George, Jim O'Rourke and Deacon White. Home was the South End Grounds, which the club used in one building or another for nearly forty years.
