Snyder served as Cincinnati's player-manager in 1882 and guided the club to a 55-25 record and first place in the American Association. He also had his best offensive year, hitting .291 with 90 hits, 50 runs batted in and 49 runs.
Fifteen recognized major-league seasons gave him 737 hits, 110 doubles, 339 runs batted in and a .236 average across 797 games. His managerial record also included Cincinnati in 1883 and 1884 and Washington in 1891, totaling 163-122 across 288 games.
Before the National League began, Snyder played three National Association seasons for Washington, Baltimore and Philadelphia. Those separate records add 118 hits, 78 runs and a .226 average in 133 games. His later playing career crossed the National League, American Association and Players' League before ending with Washington in 1891. He died in 1924, at seventy.
