Brooklyn Atlantics

The Atlantics had been the dominant club of amateur baseball in the 1860s and are the team that ended the Cincinnati Red Stockings' unbeaten run in 1870, before either had turned professional. Under professional rules in the National Association they went 50-140 across four seasons, including 2-42 in 1875.

The club had refused to pay players when the rest of the game began to, which is the whole explanation: it kept its amateurs and they lost to men who were being paid. It did not join the National League in 1876 and disbanded.

No Hall of Famer played here in these seasons. Bob Ferguson managed three of them. Home was the Capitoline Grounds and the Union Grounds. The National Association's records are not counted as major-league by Major League Baseball and sit outside the totals on this site.
