He hit .293 with 170 hits for the Cubs in 2010 and made the All-Star team. In May 2011 a fastball from Alfredo Aceves broke his cheekbone and eye socket and he lost part of his vision for a time; he was back that August and was not the same for two years.
He came back at thirty-five: 24 home runs for the Mets and Pirates in 2013 and 25 for Philadelphia in 2014. Fifteen seasons gave him 1,534 hits, 311 doubles, 159 home runs and a .275 average.
He was suspended fifty games in 2012 for tamoxifen and 162 games in 2016 for ipamorelin, which ended his career. Ten clubs used him. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
