John McDonald Marquee

John McDonald hit .233 across 1,100 games and stayed in the major leagues for sixteen years, which is a career built entirely on being able to play shortstop well enough that a manager would rather have his glove than someone else's bat late in a game.

Toronto had him longest, seven seasons across two spells, and 2013 was the year that captured the shape of it — he appeared for four different clubs in one season. He is also remembered for a home run hit in Arizona in 2010, days after his father's death, that he had promised him.

Born in New London, Connecticut in 1974, McDonald collected 568 hits and 28 home runs, and moved into a front-office role after retiring in 2014.
