Jack Quinn Marquee

b. July 1, 1883 · New York Highlanders 1909–1912, Boston Braves 1913, Baltimore Terrapins 1914–1915, Chicago White Sox 1918, New York Yankees 1919–1921, Boston Red Sox 1922–1925, Philadelphia Athletics 1925–1930, Brooklyn Robins 1931, Brooklyn Dodgers 1932, Cincinnati Reds 1933

Jack Quinn was one of seventeen pitchers permitted to keep throwing the spitball after it was outlawed in 1920, and he used the exemption for thirteen more years. He won twenty games in a season at thirty-nine, started a World Series game at forty-six, and threw his last major league pitch at fifty.

Born in what was then Austria-Hungary in 1883, he came to the Pennsylvania coalfields as a child and did not reach the majors until he was twenty-five. He pitched for ten clubs, won championships with the 1929 and 1930 Philadelphia Athletics, and led the National League in saves for Brooklyn at forty-eight.

Quinn finished 247-218 with 3,920 innings and 243 complete games. Quinn lived to sixty-two, dying in April 1946.
