Rollie Hemsley Marquee

He was a drinker with a reputation that followed him through five organizations in ten years — set-fire-to-a-teammate's-newspaper stories, missed trains, releases. He quit in 1940, joined Alcoholics Anonymous, and told the writers about it, which almost nobody did in 1940.

That April he caught Bob Feller's No-Hitter, the only no-hitter ever thrown on opening day, and drove in the only run of the 1-0 game with a triple. He was chosen for five All-Star teams across the 1930s and 1940s.

Nineteen seasons gave him 1,321 hits, 257 doubles, 555 runs batted in and a .262 average, with 1,482 games behind the plate for seven clubs. He was a Yankee for the war years and finished in Philadelphia at thirty-nine. He managed in the minor leagues and coached for Washington. He died in 1972, at sixty-five.
