Pat Ragan Marquee

b. November 15, 1883 · Cincinnati Reds 1909, Chicago Cubs 1909, Brooklyn Dodgers 1911–1912, Brooklyn Superbas 1913, Brooklyn Robins 1914–1915, Boston Braves 1915–1919, New York Giants 1919, Chicago White Sox 1919, Philadelphia Phillies 1923

He lost 18 games in 1912, 18 in 1913 and 17 in 1918, and his earned run average across those three seasons was 3.63, 3.77 and 3.23 for Brooklyn and Boston clubs that finished seventh, sixth and seventh. His career mark of 2.99 is better than most pitchers with winning records of the era.

Eleven seasons gave him 77 wins against 104, 1,608 innings, 93 complete games and 12 shutouts. The best of it was 1916 in Boston: 9-9 with a 2.08 earned run average in 23 starts, for a club that finished third.

He pitched for four clubs in 1919 alone, in three different leagues' worth of uniforms, and came back once more with the 1923 Phillies at thirty-nine. No Hall of Fame ballot ever listed him. He died in 1956, at seventy-two.
