Born December 22, 1964
Houston, TX, USA
He appeared in 1,005 games, fifteenth on the all-time list, and pitched 81 of them in 1993 alone. Seventeen seasons gave him 142 saves and a 3.42 earned run average across 1,188 innings, and not one All-Star selection in any of them.
He was a setup man for most of it and a closer for two years: 40 saves with a 1.55 earned run average for the 1998 Cleveland club that won 89 games and reached the Championship Series. He had a 3.24 the year before, when he saved 15 and set up for José Mesa.
Eight clubs used him and Seattle and San Francisco had him longest before Cleveland. He came back at thirty-nine after missing a season to shoulder surgery. The 2010 ballot gave him no votes at all.
