Ken Brett Marquee

b. September 18, 1948 · Boston Red Sox 1967, 1969–1971, Milwaukee Brewers 1972, Philadelphia Phillies 1973, Pittsburgh Pirates 1974–1975, New York Yankees 1976, Chicago White Sox 1976–1977, California Angels 1977–1978, Minnesota Twins 1979, Los Angeles Dodgers 1979, Kansas City Royals 1980–1981

Boston brought him up in September 1967 and used him twice in that year's World Series. He was nineteen years and twenty days old in the first of those games, which no pitcher has matched. He then hurt his arm, spent 1968 in the minor leagues, and did not win ten games in a season until he was twenty-one.

He could hit as well as most position players: 10 home runs and a .262 average in the years he batted, including four home runs in 1973, when he homered in four consecutive starts. Fourteen seasons gave him 83 wins against 85, a 3.93 earned run average and 1,526 innings for ten clubs, with an All-Star selection in 1974, when he went 13-9 for Pittsburgh.

His brother George is in the Hall of Fame, and Ken pitched for the Royals at the end so the two of them could be on the same club. He worked as a broadcaster afterward. He died of brain cancer in 2003, at fifty-five. No Hall of Fame ballot ever listed him.
