Johnny Klippstein pitched nine no-hit innings across two starts for Cincinnati in May 1956 and got nothing for it — the second of them was a combined effort with two relievers that reached the tenth inning before Milwaukee broke through, so the no-hitter and the game were lost together.

He pitched eighteen seasons for nine clubs, starting as a starter with the Chicago Cubs and finishing as a reliever, and won a World Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1959 and pitched in another for Minnesota in 1965.

Born in Washington, D.C. in 1927, Klippstein appeared in 711 games, saved 66 and finished 101-118. He died on October 10, 2003, a week short of seventy-six.
