Tim Foli Marquee

The Mets took him first overall in 1968, ahead of every other amateur in the country. He never developed the bat scouts had projected, but he became a durable, sure-handed shortstop who played sixteen seasons for six clubs, three games into 1979 with the Mets before a trade sent him to Pittsburgh, where he started at short for the club that won the World Series that October.

Sixteen seasons gave him 1,515 hits, 241 doubles, 576 runs batted in and a .251 average, with 1,524 games at shortstop. He fought with teammates, umpires and once his own general manager, which is where the nickname came from, and it followed him through six organizations.

He managed briefly in the minor leagues after retiring in 1985 and later coached in the majors. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
