Miguel Cairo Marquee

Miguel Cairo played seventeen seasons for eleven clubs and was, by the end, the sort of player teams acquired specifically because they had seen him do the job somewhere else: a second baseman who would play four positions, run the bases well and say the right things in a clubhouse.

Tampa Bay gave him his only stretch as a full-time regular, three seasons from 1998. He reached the World Series with St. Louis in 2004 as a Yankee opponent and again with the Cardinals in 2006, and hit .292 for New York in the 2004 season.

Born in Anaco, Venezuela in 1974, Cairo collected 1,044 hits with 139 stolen bases, and later coached and served as interim manager of the Chicago White Sox.
