He was hitting .346 for San Francisco in August 2012, leading the National League, when a test came back positive for testosterone. He was suspended fifty games, and an associate of his was found to have built a fake website for a product he claimed to have taken by accident, which nobody believed. His .346 was still the highest in the league at the end of the season, and he asked not to be given the award for it; the rule was rewritten that winter so that a suspended player cannot win it.
Fifteen seasons gave him 1,962 hits, 383 doubles, 144 home runs, 854 runs batted in and a .285 average. He had 201 hits for Kansas City in 2011 and 200 for Toronto in 2014, and the Giants won the World Series in 2012 without him on the roster.
He came up with the Yankees at twenty-one alongside Robinson Canó and was traded for Javier Vázquez. He was Dominican, from Santo Domingo. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
