Joe Gerhardt Marquee

Gerhardt's largest offensive season came in 1890, split between Brooklyn and St. Louis. He played 136 games, collected 107 hits, drove in 51 runs and stole 14 bases. He also managed the Browns for 38 games, going 20-16.

Twelve recognized major-league seasons gave him 854 hits, 112 doubles, 51 triples, 347 runs batted in and a .227 average across 986 games. He played primarily at second base. Gerhardt also managed Louisville in 1883, going 52-45 across 98 games.

Before the National League began, he played three National Association seasons for Washington, Baltimore and New York. Those separate records add 85 hits, 45 runs and a .230 average in 85 games. His later career covered nine more club identities and two recognized major leagues before two final games with Louisville in 1891. He died in 1922, at sixty-seven.
