Delahanty's peak came with Detroit in 1911, when he hit .339 with 184 hits, 83 runs and 94 runs batted in. Each was his best single-season total. It was a sharp rise for a player who had already represented six organizations before settling into four seasons with the Tigers.
Thirteen major-league seasons gave him 1,159 hits, 191 doubles, 59 triples, 489 runs batted in, 520 runs and 151 stolen bases with a .283 average. He played 568 games at second base, 296 at third, 188 in the outfield and 80 at first, moving around the field as often as he moved among clubs.
His career began with the Chicago Orphans in 1901 and included midseason moves from St. Louis to Washington in 1907 and from Washington to Detroit in 1909. After sitting out 1913, Delahanty returned for two final seasons with the Federal League's Brooklyn Tip-Tops. He died in 1953, at seventy-four.
