Greg Swindell Marquee

Cleveland took him second overall out of Texas in June 1986 and he was in the major leagues that August. He went 18-14 with 180 strikeouts in 1988 and was an All-Star the following year, and pitched six seasons for clubs that lost 90 games or more in four of them.

Seventeen seasons gave him 123 wins against 122, a 3.86 earned run average, 2,233 innings and 1,542 strikeouts. Houston signed him for four years and got a 4.35 earned run average; he moved to the bullpen at thirty-two and pitched another six years there.

He was on the Arizona staff that won the 2001 World Series, pitching in three games of it. He had struck out 501 men in three years at Texas, which is still the college record for that program. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
