Frank O'Rourke Marquee

b. November 28, 1891 · Boston Braves 1912, Brooklyn Robins 1917–1918, Washington Senators 1920–1921, Boston Red Sox 1922, Detroit Tigers 1924–1926, St. Louis Browns 1927–1931

O'Rourke was thirty-five when he became a regular with the St. Louis Browns, and his best volume came even later. In 1929, at thirty-seven, he played all 154 games, collected 147 hits, scored 81 runs, drove in 62 and stole 14 bases.

Fourteen seasons gave him 1,032 hits, 196 doubles, 100 stolen bases, 430 runs batted in and a .254 average. He played 598 games at third base, 289 at shortstop and 220 at second. That range helped him survive the long gaps that divided his early career.

O'Rourke debuted with Boston in 1912, returned with Brooklyn in 1917 and later played for Washington, the Red Sox and Detroit before joining St. Louis. He finished thirteenth in 1927 Most Valuable Player voting. His last appearance came with the Browns in 1931. He died in 1986, at ninety-four.
