Steve Barber Marquee

He went 20-13 in 1963, the first pitcher to win 20 for the Orioles since the club moved from St. Louis. He had led the American League with eight shutouts in 1961, at twenty-three, and was an All-Star twice.

On April 30, 1967 he had a no-hitter with two out in the ninth against Detroit and walked ten men. Two walks, a wild pitch and an error scored two runs; Stu Miller relieved him and got the last out, and Baltimore lost 2-1 without a hit being made against it, which has happened to almost nobody.

Fifteen seasons gave him 121 wins against 106, a 3.36 earned run average, 1,999 innings and 21 shutouts. Elbow trouble at twenty-six took most of what was left; seven clubs used him after Baltimore. The 1980 ballot gave him no votes at all. He died in 2007, at sixty-eight.
