He went 17-12 with a 2.05 earned run average for the Yankees in 1968 and was Rookie of the Year with 17 of the 20 votes. In 1972, with the White Sox, he won 21 games; in 1973 he lost 21, which is the largest swing of that kind in the period.
Sixteen seasons gave him 146 wins against 149, a 3.60 earned run average, 2,529 innings and 1,359 strikeouts. He started 327 games and relieved in 247 more, finishing as a bullpen pitcher for Montreal at thirty-six.
He was never an All-Star. He pitched for the 1975 Oakland club that won the division and lost the Championship Series. The 1988 ballot gave him no votes at all.
