Born February 17, 1976
Fort Polk, LA, USA
He went 12-7 with a 2.41 earned run average and 19 saves for Cincinnati in 1999 and took the Rookie of the Year award with 118 points of 160 and 17 first-place votes, beating out a strong class that included Carlos Beltrán. He struck out 107 batters in 93 innings, an unusual rate for a reliever of that period.
Elbow and shoulder injuries followed for the rest of his career. Boston traded for him in 2003 and he saved 25 games there and pitched in the postseason, but arm trouble limited him after that. Nine seasons gave him 28 wins, 55 saves, 439 innings and a 3.36 earned run average across 344 appearances.
He finished with Baltimore in 2007 at thirty-one. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
