Ross Detwiler was the sixth overall pick in 2007 and reached the majors three months later, which is rare, and then spent most of a sixteen-year career trying to hold a rotation spot, which is more common. Washington gave him his best season in 2012, when he won ten games with a 3.40 earned run average for a division winner.
He started Game 4 of that year's division series against St. Louis and gave up one run in six innings. After leaving Washington he pitched for ten more organizations, converting to relief along the way.
Born in St. Louis in 1986, Detwiler finished 30-51 with 505 strikeouts across 752 innings, appearing in 307 games and retiring after 2022.
