Rey Sánchez Marquee

b. October 5, 1967 · Chicago Cubs 1991–1997, New York Yankees 1997, 2005, San Francisco Giants 1998, Kansas City Royals 1999–2001, Atlanta Braves 2001, Boston Red Sox 2002, New York Mets 2003, Seattle Mariners 2003, Tampa Bay Devil Rays 2004

Rey Sánchez played shortstop for fifteen years and ten organizations and hit .272 doing it, which was rather better than the position asked of him at the time and helps explain why so many clubs found room.

Chicago had him longest, seven seasons with the Cubs, and Kansas City gave him three as a regular at the end of the 1990s. From 2001 he moved constantly — six clubs in five years — usually arriving at a contender in need of an infielder in August.

Born in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico in 1967, Sánchez collected 1,317 hits across 1,490 games and finished with the Yankees in 2005.
