Roof's strongest power season came with Milwaukee in 1970. He hit 13 home runs, scored 39 runs and collected 73 hits across 110 games. His largest workload had come four years earlier with Kansas City, when he played 127 games and drove in a career-high 44.
Fifteen seasons gave him 463 hits, 69 doubles, 43 home runs, 210 runs batted in and a .215 average across 857 games. He caught 835 of them and appeared only three times at another position, all at first base.
Roof made two brief appearances for the Milwaukee Braves before moving from California to Cleveland during 1965. He then followed the Athletics from Kansas City to Oakland and later played for the Brewers and Twins. Four games for the White Sox in 1976 and three for expansion Toronto in 1977 closed a career spanning nine club identities.
