He pitched five seasons in Denver in the years before the humidor, when the ball carried further there than anywhere, and in 1999 went 17-11 with 210 strikeouts — the most any Rockies pitcher had recorded — and an earned run average of 5.04 that was better than it looks.
Fifteen seasons gave him 129 wins against 124, a 4.67 earned run average, 2,196 innings and 1,664 strikeouts. He threw a shutout in his second major-league start for the Dodgers in 1992 and three in his rookie season.
He was Dominican and pitched for eight clubs, four of them in his last three seasons. A shoulder tear at thirty-four took the rest. No Hall of Fame ballot has listed him.
