He won it in 2013 for Detroit and in 2016 and 2017 for Washington. Only four pitchers have more: Roger Clemens with seven, Randy Johnson with five, Greg Maddux and Steve Carlton with four each. Six other men also have three. He led his league in wins four times, twice in each league.
In 2015 he threw two no-hitters, on June 20 against Pittsburgh and on October 3 against the Mets, winning 6-0 and 2-0. He led the National League in strikeouts in 2016, 2017 and 2018, and the last of those totals was a flat 300, the most he recorded in a season.
He finished 221-117 over eighteen seasons and 2,963 innings, with 3,489 strikeouts, eleventh in the record, and a 3.22 earned run average. Seven franchises employed him and eight All-Star teams chose him. He was still starting in 2025, when he made seventeen starts for Toronto, the last season the archive records for him.
