Ken Henderson Marquee

b. June 15, 1946 · San Francisco Giants 1965–1972, Chicago White Sox 1973–1975, Atlanta Braves 1976, Texas Rangers 1977, New York Mets 1978, Cincinnati Reds 1978–1979, Chicago Cubs 1979–1980

San Francisco gave him a bonus out of a San Diego high school in 1964 and had him in the majors at eighteen, which did him no favors: he hit .192 as a nineteen-year-old and spent five years as a fourth outfielder behind Mays, McCovey and the Alous.

The White Sox traded for him and in 1974, at twenty-eight, he played every game of the season and hit .292 with 176 hits, 20 home runs and 95 runs batted in. He never came close to it again — a knee, then a shoulder — and played for five more clubs in six years.

Sixteen seasons gave him 1,168 hits, 216 doubles, 122 home runs, 576 runs batted in, 589 walks and a .257 average. He was a switch-hitter who drew walks in an era that did not count them. No Hall of Fame ballot has listed him.
