Jeff Reed Marquee

Reed's strongest power season came late. In 1997, at thirty-four, he hit .297 with 17 home runs and 47 runs batted in across 90 games for Colorado. He followed it by hitting .290 in 1998, one year after producing more than a quarter of his career home-run total.

Seventeen seasons gave him 774 hits, 144 doubles, 61 home runs, 323 runs batted in and a .250 average. His 1,071 games at catcher accounted for nearly all of his defensive work. He also drew 391 walks, an important part of his value during a career in which he never reached 400 at bats in a season.

Minnesota brought him to the majors in 1984, and Montreal sent him to Cincinnati during 1988. Five seasons with the Reds became his longest continuous stay before later runs with San Francisco, Colorado and the Cubs. Reed finished with Chicago in 2000, closing a career that had covered six organizations.
