Jeff Kent

Jeff Kent Marquee Hall of Fame 2026

b. March 7, 1968 · Toronto Blue Jays 1992, New York Mets 1992–1996, Cleveland Indians 1996, San Francisco Giants 1997–2002, Houston Astros 2003–2004, Los Angeles Dodgers 2005–2008

Toronto brought him up in 1992 and traded him to the Mets that August. His career turned in San Francisco. From 1997 through 2002 he drove in 100 runs every year, and in 2000 he hit .334 with 196 hits, 33 home runs and 125 runs batted in. The writers named him the National League's Most Valuable Player.

He and Barry Bonds were teammates there, and the two did not get along; they fought in the dugout during a game in 2002, the season the Giants won the pennant. Kent never won a Gold Glove. What he did was hit for power from a position that had almost never supplied it.

He finished with 2,461 hits, 1,518 runs batted in and 560 doubles, and played 2,034 games at second base. Among players who spent most of their careers there, only Nap Lajoie and Rogers Hornsby drove in more runs. Ten times the writers passed him over, his best showing 46.5 percent in 2023. A committee elected him in 2026 with fourteen of sixteen votes.
