Jack Nelson Marquee

Nelson had his largest offensive season with the New York Metropolitans in 1883, hitting .305 with 127 hits and 75 runs across 97 games. He then led the American Association in walks twice, drawing 74 in 1884 and 61 in 1885.

Nine recognized major-league seasons overall gave him 624 hits, 70 doubles, 523 runs, 331 walks and a .254 average across 624 games. He played primarily at shortstop, along with time at second base and in the outfield.

Before those seasons, Nelson played four years in the National Association for Brooklyn, Troy and New York. Those separate records add 209 hits, 125 runs and a .250 average in 193 games. His recognized career later included Indianapolis, Troy, Worcester, the Metropolitans, Giants and Brooklyn Gladiators. He died in 1910, at sixty-one.
