Heinie Manush Marquee Hall of Fame 1964

b. July 20, 1901 · Detroit Tigers 1923–1927, St. Louis Browns 1928–1930, Washington Senators 1930–1935, Boston Red Sox 1936, Brooklyn Dodgers 1937–1938, Pittsburgh Pirates 1938–1939

Detroit played him in an outfield alongside Harry Heilmann and Ty Cobb, then traded him to the Browns after the 1927 season. He answered with 241 hits in 1928 and 204 in 1929, leading the American League in hits the first year and in doubles both years.

Washington gave up Goose Goslin to get him in 1930. He hit .342 in 1932 and .336 in 1933, when he led the league in hits and triples and the Senators won the last pennant in their history. An umpire ejected him from a game in that World Series.

He finished with 2,524 hits, 491 doubles, and 160 triples, and he struck out 345 times in seventeen seasons. The writers never gave him a tenth of their vote, and he was out of the game twenty-five years before the Veterans Committee elected him in 1964.
