Born September 28, 1942
Fostoria, OH, USA
Grant Jackson came out of the Pittsburgh bullpen in the fifth inning of Game 7 of the 1979 World Series and retired eight Baltimore hitters without allowing a run. The Pirates rallied, and he was the winning pitcher in a championship game against the club he had spent six seasons with.
He had started out as a starter — his one All-Star selection came in 1969 with Philadelphia, the year he won fourteen games — before Baltimore converted him to relief in 1971. It extended his career by a decade.
Born in Fostoria, Ohio in 1942, Jackson pitched eighteen seasons and 692 games, finishing 86-75 with 79 saves. He lived until February 2, 2021.
