On April 24, 1917 he no-hit Boston at Fenway Park, the first no-hitter any New York American League pitcher had thrown. Seven years later, with Washington, he started the fourth game of the 1924 World Series against the Giants and won it, and Washington took the Series in seven — the only one that franchise won in that city.
Fifteen seasons gave him 132 wins against 131 with a 3.21 earned run average, 2,265 innings and 138 complete games. He won 18 games in both 1921 and 1922 for the Senators.
He was a left-hander from upstate New York and pitched until he was thirty-eight. No Hall of Fame ballot ever listed him. He died in 1962, at seventy-three.
