Frankie Hayes Marquee

b. October 13, 1914 · Philadelphia Athletics 1933–1934, 1936–1942, 1944–1945, St. Louis Browns 1942–1943, Cleveland Indians 1945–1946, Chicago White Sox 1946, Boston Red Sox 1947

Between 1943 and 1946 he caught 312 consecutive games, which is still the record for the position and is not a record anyone is likely to want. He caught 155 games in 1944 for a Philadelphia club that lost 90.

On April 30, 1946 he caught Bob Feller's no-hitter against the Yankees and hit the home run that won it 1-0, which is the only time a catcher has done both in the same game.

Fourteen seasons gave him 1,164 hits, 119 home runs, 628 runs batted in, 564 walks and a .259 average, with six All-Star selections. He worked in a Pennsylvania steel mill afterward and died of a heart attack in 1955, at forty. No Hall of Fame ballot ever listed him.
