Born February 4, 1962
Gary, IN, USA
He was a closer for Milwaukee for seven years, saving 133 games and making three All-Star teams, and then spent eleven more as the left-hander who comes in for one batter. The second job kept him in the game until he was forty-one and produced 1,064 appearances, seventh on the all-time list.
Eighteen seasons gave him 158 saves and a 3.64 earned run average across 1,072 innings. He saved 33 games in 1989 and had a stretch in the middle of the career, after shoulder trouble, when six clubs used him in four years.
He was drafted out of North Carolina State by the Cardinals and did not sign, went back, and was taken by Milwaukee in the first round the next year. He has broadcast for MLB Network since. The 2009 ballot gave him no votes.
