Boston Doves

The Doves took their name from the Dovey brothers, who bought the club in 1907 — the papers named it after the owners rather than anything on the field, which is a fair indication of what the field was offering. Four seasons at 219-389, none of them close to winning.

The best is 1908, at 63-91. The worst is 1909, at 45-108, one of the heaviest losing seasons the club has had under any of its names. Home was the South End Grounds.

One Hall of Famer played here, Joe Kelley, who had been a star of the 1890s Baltimore clubs and managed this one for a season at 63-91. The name changed to Rustlers in 1911 and to Braves in 1912, and the franchise continues in Atlanta.
