Lake's best offensive season came with Louisville in 1894. He hit .286 with 12 hits, one home run, 10 runs batted in, eight runs and 11 walks across 16 games. The home run was the only one of his career.
Five playing seasons gave him 29 hits, six doubles, 16 runs batted in and a .232 average across 48 games. Lake caught 27 games and also appeared at second base, shortstop and first base.
Lake later managed 349 games for Boston clubs in both leagues, going 163-180. His 1908 American League club went 22-17 after he took over, and the 1909 team finished 88-63. He moved to Boston's National League club in 1910 and went 53-100. Lake also returned as a player for three games that year, nineteen years after his debut. He died in 1931, at sixty-five.
