Wade Boggs Marquee Hall of Fame 2005

b. June 15, 1958 · Boston Red Sox 1982–1992, New York Yankees 1993–1997, Tampa Bay Devil Rays 1998–1999

His 240 hits in 1985 were the most anyone had collected in an American League season since 1928. He led the league in runs and in doubles twice each and in walks twice, took 1,412 walks in his career against 745 strikeouts, and was chosen for the All-Star team in twelve different seasons.

He also drew 100 walks in each of four straight seasons in which he had 200 hits, a run no other hitter in this archive has kept up for more than three years. Boston let him leave after 1992. He won two Gold Gloves at third base for the Yankees, and a World Series with them in 1996.

On August 7, 1999, in his second season with Tampa Bay, he hit a home run for his 3,000th hit; nobody had reached the mark that way before, and Tony Gwynn had got there the day before him. He finished with 3,010 hits and a .328 average, and the writers elected him in 2005 with 474 of 516 votes.
