He went 7-9 with a 3.18 earned run average and 11 saves for Cleveland in 1969, his busiest season, working 52 games out of the bullpen, then had another good year for Boston in 1970. He was one of a small number of Mexican-born pitchers in the majors in that era.

Eight major-league seasons gave him 32 wins, 52 saves, 645 innings and a 3.36 earned run average across 335 appearances for five clubs. He pitched in the Mexican League for years on either side of his major-league career, both before and long after it.

His brother Enrique also pitched in the majors. He finished with San Diego in 1974 at thirty-one. He is not on a Hall of Fame ballot.
