Thevenow hit two home runs for St. Louis in 1926, the only two of his fifteen-season career. He also collected 144 hits, drove in 63 runs, stole eight bases and finished fourth in National League Most Valuable Player voting that year.
His largest offensive season came for Philadelphia in 1930, when he played 156 games and set career highs with 164 hits, 78 runs batted in and a .286 average. Overall he finished with 1,030 hits, 124 doubles, 456 runs batted in and a .247 average across 1,229 games.
Thevenow played 848 games at shortstop, 188 at second base and 171 at third. After five years with St. Louis and two with Philadelphia, he spent most of the 1930s with Pittsburgh, interrupted by seasons in Cincinnati and Boston. He returned to the Pirates for 15 final games in 1938. The 1950 Hall of Fame ballot gave him two votes.
