York led the National League with 10 triples for Providence in 1878, then hit .310 with 106 hits and 69 runs the following year. In 1883 he led the American Association with 37 walks for Cleveland, six years after his first counting-stat lead.
Ten recognized major-league seasons gave him 741 hits, 174 doubles, 57 triples, 467 runs and a .271 average across 690 games. Five of those seasons came with Providence. York also managed portions of the 1878 and 1881 clubs, going 56-37 across 96 games.
Before the National League began, he played five National Association seasons for Troy, Baltimore, Philadelphia and Hartford. Those separate records add 354 hits, 44 doubles, 32 triples, 276 runs and a .278 average in 273 games. York finished with the American Association's Baltimore Orioles in 1885 and died in 1936, at eighty-five.
