Tom Brown Marquee

b. September 21, 1860 · Baltimore Orioles 1882, Columbus Buckeyes 1883–1884, Pittsburg Alleghenys 1885–1887, Indianapolis Hoosiers 1887, Boston Beaneaters 1888–1889, Boston Reds 1890–1891, Louisville Colonels 1892–1894, St. Louis Browns 1895, Washington Senators 1895–1898

In 1891, for the Boston club in the American Association, he led the league in hits with 189, in runs with 177, in triples with 21 and in stolen bases with 106. Only three seasons in the game's history have reached 177 runs, and that is one of them.

Seventeen seasons gave him 1,958 hits, 1,524 runs, 658 stolen bases, 749 walks and a .265 average across seven clubs and three leagues. He came over from Liverpool as a child, which made him the most accomplished English-born player the game had, and he played center field into his late thirties.

He managed Washington for part of 1897 and 1898 and umpired in the National League afterward. No Hall of Fame ballot ever listed him. He died in Washington in 1927, at sixty-seven.
