Born January 4, 1976
Lomita, CA, USA
Fifteen seasons gave him 130 wins against 113, a 4.14 earned run average, 1,982 innings and 1,681 strikeouts, with two All-Star selections. He won 15, 17 and 12 games for the Cubs from 2007 and had a 3.10 earned run average in the last of them.
He threw 87 miles an hour and got outs with a curveball and a change of arm angle, and he gave up 254 home runs because the fastball was straight and up. He was traded three times before he was twenty-eight and pitched for six clubs.
He beat Alex Rodriguez to a loose ball in a 2007 game and slammed his glove into the mound often enough that the television cameras waited for it. He has scouted since. The 2019 ballot gave him no votes at all.
