Steve Trachsel is on the wrong end of one of the most replayed clips in the sport: the low line drive Mark McGwire hit over the left-field wall on September 8, 1998 for his 62nd home run of the season, breaking Roger Maris's record.
He worked at a pace that exasperated hitters, umpires and his own fielders, and it was effective often enough to keep him in the rotation for sixteen years. His best season was 1996 with the Cubs, when he made the All-Star team, and he won fifteen games for the Mets in 2006 as they reached the League Championship Series.
Born in Oxnard, California in 1970, Trachsel started 417 of his 420 appearances, worked 2,501 innings and finished 143-159.
